Barbara Ann Corcoran

Barbara Ann Corcoran, born March 10, 1949 is an American businesswoman and investor. She is also a speaker and consultant, a columnist syndicated to a speaker, author, and TV personality. In 2001, she founded The Corcoran Group in New York City. The company was sold to the company to NRT for $66 million. Shortly thereafter she resigned from the company. Corcoran was a participant in 12 of ABC's Shark Tank seasons. As of February 2020, she had signed 53 deals with the show, with the most significant being a $350,000 investment to purchase 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was the second in the family of 10 children and was raised in Edgewater. Florence Corcoran's mother was an exemplary household worker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He moved from one job to the next during Corcoran's youth. At times, the family depended on food delivery for free from a nearby grocery store. Corcoran says that her father was a drunk who did her mother a disservice and disrespect. Corcoran struggled through her schooling before discovering that she had dyslexia. Corcoran began high school at St. Cecilia High School Englewood after attending a Catholic elementary school. Corcoran graduated from Leonia High School with a diploma in English, despite having failed several classes during her first year of high school.
