Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 was a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Harris is the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general of California from 2011 until 2017 and was an United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010 she was appointed Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for health care, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
